What data does the provider collect from you?

You can set up a user account with Deermapper and use it to use the provider's services. To do this, you must enter access data (username/email address and password) and share this with the provider.

You can provide data that is not required for your internet use and still contains information about yourself. This data is not mandatory and can be, for example, your address, your date of birth or your telephone number.

How does the provider collect your data?

Data that you enter on the website or in the iOS/Android app is transmitted to Deermapper via a secure connection.

The provider analyzes the surfing behavior of the users in order to improve its service, for example by analyzing which functions the users particularly like to use.

Deermapper needs so-called access permissions in order to offer you various functions. This includes the access to your current position for precise recording of hunting ground facilities, access to your camera to take photos, or permission to send push notifications, e.g. to be informed about new events in your hunting ground. You can also find out the exact permissions in your app settings.

What does Deermapper use your data for?

Deermapper needs your access data in order to be able to display user-specific hunting ground data.

Are there advertisements in Deermapper?

The provider places advertising for third parties in the free licenses in the web application.

Location Data & Background Location Access

1. Location data collected by Deermapper

Deermapper collects precise geographic location data from your device, including latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy, and timestamps. This data is collected in two modes:

  • Foreground location (while you are actively using the app): used to display your position on the hunting ground map, to attach a location to events you record (e.g. sightings, harvests), and for general map navigation.
  • Background location (while the app is running in the background or the screen is locked): used exclusively for recording continuous GPS tracks during ongoing hunting activities.

2. Android permission: ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION

Deermapper requests the Android permission ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION. This permission is used for one single purpose only: to continue recording a GPS track you have actively started, even if you switch to another app or lock your screen. No other feature of Deermapper uses background location access.

3. Data transmission and storage

Recorded GPS tracks are uploaded to and stored on Deermapper servers operated by pentamap GmbH (Petersbachstraße 28/6, A-8042 Graz, Austria). The data is associated with your user account and the hunting ground you manage. Location data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for profiling.

4. Data retention

Location data is retained as long as your user account is active or as long as you do not delete the specific records. You can delete individual GPS tracks and location-tagged events at any time within the app. Upon account deletion, all associated location data is permanently removed from our servers.

5. Security

All location data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in access-controlled databases. Access is restricted to your account and hunting ground members you have explicitly authorized.

6. How to revoke background location permission

You can revoke background location access at any time in your device settings:
Settings → Apps → Deermapper → Permissions → Location → Allow only while using the app
Revoking this permission stops GPS track recording when the app is in the background. All other app features remain fully functional. You can also revoke foreground location access; doing so will disable map-based and GPS-dependent features of the app.
